BTC RUN CLINIC 2025
Join us for our annual run clinic with Coach John Hirsch!
When: Saturday May 10th from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
Where: Run training meeting spot (the water fountain at center drive)
Cost: $40 – the clinic will be capped at 14 people.
The Brooklyn Tri Club’s run clinic will take runners through every aspect of running, from the best run warm-ups to perfect run form and proper cooldowns. Using over a dozen drills and exercises; along with video software to break down each runner’s gait in real-time with the athlete, runners will leave with improved run form, new skills and knowledge about their running. Lasting about 2 hours, this deep dive into running will bring each athlete to the next level; breaking down and deconstructing each aspect of running into simple movements so athletes can make small changes for meaningful gain that will make the athlete faster and help keep them injury-free. There will also be a useful q/a about all things running including shoes, fueling, running in tris, and anything else people want to know.
Hosted by John Hirsch, 4 time top 10 pro ironman and 3-time ultra-marathon Spartan World Champ, John brings his 20 years of racing and coaching experience and enthusiasm to this interactive clinic.
Swim Technique Clinic
Coached by John Stewart and Peter Helling, this one night event is separate from our Masters Swim program and is aimed at giving you new insights into your swim technique and how to dramatically improve it! The clinic will take place in the pool at International High School Prospect Heights.
Here’s what to expect:
- Video Feedback: Throughout the evening, the coaches will give video feedback that will help you better align your body, reduce drag, and improve your pull – all critical to fast swimming. We’ll address drafting, sighting, and straight swimming.
- Body Position: The coaches will work with you to balance yourself in the water in a way that takes pressure off your legs and narrows your profile. They have some fun drills and challenges in store!
- Reality! You will get better and swim faster. You’ll take what you’ve learned and apply it, using some straightforward measures to see how you’ve improved. The coaches will follow up post-clinic with details of what you did and some of your key data to go along with it.
The cost is $40 and participation will be capped at 20 swimmers.

Bike Skills 101 Clinic
The Bike Skills 101 clinic is designed to develop bike handling fundamentals and establish a foundation for safer and more confident riding on the open road, in the park, and during training and racing. This clinic is ideal for cyclists with no formal instruction in bike skills or for more experienced cyclists who want to refresh their basics.
Skills to be covered:
- Straight line riding and look back drills (When riding can you look behind you safely while continuing to ride straight as you prepare to change lanes or turn across traffic?)
- Emergency braking drills (Do you know whether to use the front brake or back brake and why?)
- Proper mount/dismount skills (If you drop a chain on a hill, can you get back on easily?)
- Hill climbing/flying dismount skills (Can you comfortably stand on a bike while in motion and tip it from side to side?)
- Proper body position and turning skills (Are you comfortable turning corners? Do you like descending or not?)
- Balance and relaxation drills (Can you take a bottle at any time with either hand?)
- Bike signals for all athletes (Do you know all the signals so I can ensure I am not a danger to others who ride with me or around me?)
- Basic gearing knowledge & technique (Do you know how to efficiently transition from the big/small chain ring and back without losing momentum? Do you know how to avoid cross-chaining?)
- Cornering (Do you know what line to carve for a corner & why? Can you turn the bike in a small space? Do I lean the bike or the body or both? DO you know how to corner in wet weather riding v. dry weather riding?)

2025 Uniform Fit Night at Ride Brooklyn
What’s that I hear? Is that the sound of the final dregs of winter leaving us behind?! Yes, yes it is. And you know what this means: it’s time to be outside again.
First stop: come out to Ride Brooklyn to get fitted for triathlon season with some new BTC race suits!
This year, we’re adopting Pactimo as our official uniform partner, so if you’re looking to snag some new gear, it’s a good idea to come try out their race kit in person and nail your fit before the spring order window closes in mid-April. We’ll have Pactimo’s men’s and women’s kits in a variety of sizes.
And even if you don’t need new gear, come anyway for the free pizza and a chance to see everyone’s lovely faces again!
As a bonus: in addition to our usual club discount, our friends at Ride Brooklyn will be offering an additional 5% off everything in the store and 10% off winter gear.
Fix a Flat Workshop
There’s nothing better than heading out on a long ride feeling confident that you are prepared for eventualities! Come to our Fix a Flat workshop led by our very own Emily Annis and Jo Werner.
The workshop will happen on Thursday April 17th from 6:30 to 7:15 pm at Bartel Pritchard Square. Possible hang out/drinks after!
It is suggested, but not required, that you bring your bike and all of your personal tire changing equipment to the workshop.
GTFO 2025
April 27, 2025 @ 6:00 am – 1:00 pm
BTC’s 2025 GTFO (Get The Eff Out of Prospect Park Ride) is here!
Join us on Sunday, April 27th for a no-drop, group ride led by several of our more experienced team members across the Brooklyn Bridge, up the west side, across the GW Bridge and north through NJ and NY. This will be a 55 mile ride that goes up Henry Hudson Dr to 9W Market and back on 9W. There is also an option to shorten on the way back.
There will be 3 groups that are staggered 15 minutes apart starting at 6:00AM. All rides will start from Borough Hall and will take a break at “9W Market” before turning back to Brooklyn. All groups will be of mixed speeds with one of our experienced leaders riding in the front navigating and another riding at the back to make sure that no one gets left behind.
This ride is the perfect opportunity to meet teammates, while spreading your cycling wings and learning how to navigate the route from BK to 9W in order to complete longer rides! Newer riders are highly encouraged to attend our fix a flat workshop on April 17th.
This event is for members ONLY. Since there are limited spots please confirm that you can make this date and if your plans change please update your RSVP status as soon as possible to make space for someone else. Detailed communication will go out about the ride on Friday, April 25th or sooner.
