Bike Skills 101 Clinic
May 22, 2022 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am
BTC bike skills clinics are back! Join Coaches Peter Helling and Roman Fedosiev for Bike Skills 101.
When: May 22, 2022, 7 am – 9 am
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell
Cost: $45 per clinic
Each clinic is two hours long, with a minimum of four and maximum of 12 athletes.
The Bike Skills 101 clinic is designed to develop bike handling fundamentals and establish a foundation for safer and more confident riding on the open road, in the park, and during training and racing. This clinic is ideal for cyclists with no formal instruction in bike skills or for more experienced cyclists who want to refresh their basics.
Skills to be covered:
- Straight line riding and look back drills (When riding can you look behind you safely while continuing to ride straight as you prepare to change lanes or turn across traffic?)
- Emergency braking drills (Do you know whether to use the front brake or back brake and why?)
- Proper mount/dismount skills (If you drop a chain on a hill, can you get back on easily?)
- Hill climbing/flying dismount skills (can you comfortably stand on a bike while in motion and tip it from side to side?)
- Proper body position and turning skills (Are you comfortable turning corners? Do you like descending or not?)
- Balance and relaxation drills (Can you take a bottle at any time with either hand?)
- Bike signals for all athletes (Do you know all the signals so I can ensure I am not a danger to others who ride with me or around me?)
- Basic gearing knowledge & technique (Do you know how to efficiently transition from the big/small chain ring and back without losing momentum? Do you know how to avoid cross-chaining?)
- Cornering (Do you know what line to carve for a corner & why? Can you turn the bike in a small space? Do I lean the bike or the body or both? Do you know how to corner in wet weather riding v. dry weather riding?)
